Moving = Lots of boxes

I do not know anyone who would not agree with me that moving is tiring!

Luckily we have made a huge dent in this:

Can't wait until it's all done! Then I can share the good pictures.

PS - Banana boxes are the BEST for moving! They are very sturdy and easy to handle. Best of all they are FREE, just go to your grocery store's produce department and ask for them.

Green Mesquite

This past Saturday we had to get out of our house with the dogs so that a potential renter could come look at the house. They were coming at noon so we decided to go get lunch. Well, since we had the dogs with us we needed a dog friendly place. First we tried Austin Java on Barton Springs, dogs are allowed on their outside patio, it was a BEAUTIFUL day so sadly the patio was all full.

Thankfully I had my handy dandy iPhone and looked up dog-friendly restaurants in Austin and found out that Green Mesquite, also on Barton Springs, has a dog friendly patio. So, we walked on down and got a table.

Robert and I split the Bubba's Taco Basket, with turkey tacos and the Chicken Fried Chicken.

The taco's were amazing, the CFC was good too, but I don't think I would get it again. My brother was still staying with us and he got the Cheese Steak Sandwich, it looked yummy. Here he is enjoying it:

And just for fun, here are photos of the boys under the table:

Hudson will NOT look at the camera when I am taking pictures!

Wade on the other hand, has no problems, although he looks terrified!

Anyways, if you are ever in Austin and have a craving for good BBQ, hit up Green Mesquite!

"A Ride with Bob"

I can not believe I forgot to talk about this! Last Friday Robert and I went and saw "A Ride with Bob - The Bob Wills Musical." It is a musical put on by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel fame. The premise behind the musical is Ray's talk with Bob Wills that never happened. See, back in the 70's Bob was recording what was to be his last album with Merle Haggard and Asleep at the Wheel was recording at the same studio. Ray was brought into meet Bob, but after a long day of recording Bob was tired and his manager said that Ray could talk to him the next day. Well, that night Bob had a stroke and went into a coma. Bob never woke up from that coma and he dies 2 years later.

The musical was at the Long Center which I have to say is an AMAZING venue! I really do not think there was a bad seat in the house. We sat in the balcony, which I think was nice. No, we could not see the actors up close and see exactly what they were doing, but we had a great overview of the stage, it was really nice.

We were probably the youngest people there that were not there with their parents. With it being the opening weekend of the film portion of SXSW that was not really surprising. It was ingesting during the intermission and before the show to overhear people talking about how they came to be living in Texas and Austin, and how they danced to Bob Wills at a dancehall.

All in all it was a great "date night" with Robert. And I would HIGHLY recomend that everyone go see "A Ride with Bob."

Wedding Sadness to Happiness

So this weekend Robert and I went to a wedding for a good friend of his in Waco. It was a very pretty wedding. The ceremony was at an older church, but I am sure that it had special meaning to the bride and groom and their families. It is pretty close to where the bride's grandparents live. And the reception was on the grounds of this BEAUTIFUL historic home. The lovely couple is having a great time in Costa Rica right now, so jealous!

While we were at the wedding I got a little down. Mostly I got frustrated that Robert and I are probably going to have to pay for our wedding ourselves. I know my parents would help more if they could, so I am not going to get mad at them. But I just hate that I have to compromise. We are going to Las Vegas in July and Robert told me we should get married there. But as quick and easy as that sounds, I don't want that. I want the pretty dress and having all my family and friends around to share that day with me. I want something I will remember forever. Not something that is done and over with in a drive thru chapel in Vegas! Sorry if that sounds bitchy or rude or whatever, but it is just how I am feeling.

I told Robert that I thought we could have a backyard wedding for $5000. He finally told me that if I could prove to him $5000 is all we would spend then he would be maybe willing to do it!

So here goes. I have to plan a $5000 wedding!

Howdy – Take Two

Alright, alright, alright. I have decided to start over on this (albeit I will leave my two measly previous posts for posterity sake). I had these grand plans of this blog being a great sounding board for all my wedding diy ideas, but then I got to thinking, what happens when the wedding is over? If I stick with this would I really want to set up another blog to continue with? Answer = NOPE.

So, I have repurposed this to cover everything going on. Mostly I want this to be a place to record diy projects during my first year (& hopefully many to follow), with my soon to be hubby, as home owners, anything delicious I happen to cook up in the kitchen and oh yeah, that wedding I mentioned up there, that too.

We are not closing on our house until 25th so until then I might introduce the major players you will probably be hearing the most about around here and maybe let you in on some of the things I can not WAIT to get started on once we move!

Long time, no type!

I know, I know, it's been a little over 2 months since I posted anything, what can I say, life had gotten in the way. But in a good way, a very good way! Wedding planning kind of got put on hold for a little while so that we could buy a house! Yup, that's right a HOUSE! The most adorable 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house ever. The best part? It sits on 3.56 acres! So what that possibly means is BACKYARD WEDDING! Yes! I mean what better way to show off our new digs and save money (hopefully)!

Here is what I am thinking so far:
  • Late Saturday afternoon in October, around 2ish?
  • BBQ buffet
  • Cupcakes
  • Casual tea length dress
  • Homemade Vanilla

Here is what I am worried about so far:
  • Rain options
  • Parking
  • Spending more money than if we rented a venue
Hmm, I guess those are not the worst things I could be worried about. Although I do suppose if I do a tea length dress that will nix my cowboy boot wearing!

So, those are my thoughts, time to get to work for the day!

If anyone happens to stumble upon my little blog, have you been to a backyard wedding? What did you like? What did you not like?
