You might be a bad mom when...

Your baby runs a (low-grade) fever for 3+ days and you chalk it up to teething and when you finally take her to the doctor on day 5 it turns out she has an ear infection. True story.

No mind that she had been hitting her head above her ear with her hand for the past few days, you say oh that's just an extension of the clapping she has learned.

Or that she never ran a fever when her two bottom teeth came in, you figure her doctor did say she had a molar getting close to coming through, man, that molar must be a bitch.

PS: Head hitting thing is suuuuper cute, I'll try and get a video of it if she does it again... which she might not since her ears shouldn't be hurting her anymore.

Parenting FAIL.

This Texas Baby: 6 Months - I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

I can't believe I forgot this, but Sadie sprouted her two bottom teeth during the last month! It was just like one day there were no teeth and then next she had two pearly whites.

I hope the rest of her teething goes that easy!

I have tried about a million different times to get pictures of them, but no luck. I'll keep trying though!

This Texas Baby: 6 Months

(I've had this sitting in my draft folder for over a week, thinking I would get around to editing her 6th month pictures I took to add to this... who am I kidding?)

Umm, Sadie celebrated her half-birthday two weeks ago... sigh.

Let's see, at 6 months old Sadie is:
  • 15 pounds
  • 26 inches
  • Rolling over both ways
  • Rolling multiple times in a row
  • Army crawling to get wherever she needs to go
  • Getting up on her hands an knees and rocking, common crawling!
  • Still going to bed around 7pm
  • Still having to be woken up at 6:30am most weekdays
  • Sleeping through the night about 90% of the time
  • Eating lots of "solids", so far she has had sweet potatoes, butternut squash, carrots, green beans, broccoli and parsnips. She is a FANTASTIC eater and has loved everything! (I have apples and peaches frozen and ready to go, but I am trying to hold off on fruit just a little bit longer.)
  • She is finally starting to sit up a little bit by herself, I still don't feel comfortable not sitting behind her in-case she falls
I try not to think about the fact that every day she is starting to look more and more like a toddler and not my little baby. I am so not ready for her to grow up, but is any parent ever ready for their baby to grow up?

Maybe if you're lucky I'll post some 6th moth pictures soon!

5 Pins for Friday

Today my pins are centered around DIYs for Sadie-cakes. Rumor has it that hubs is going to be out of town for pretty much the next two months so I need some tasks to occupy my evenings, there's only so much house cleaning (psh!), book reading (hunger games series) and bad tv watching (big brother) I can do before I've had enough. I'm linking up with Kat again, so go check out her Friday 5 (pretttty funny today)!

Bandanna Dress
I imagine Sadie is still a smidgen too little for one of these, but I can make a bunch and stock-pile them for next spring/summer. It will be super cute come fair/rodeo time. BONUS: it can double as a tunic as she gets taller.

Hankie Dress
Same idea as the bandanna dress, but a bit cleaner. There is an antique store right by my office, I will have to search it for cute hankies one day at lunch!

Reversible Tunic/Dress
This one is a little more ambitious for me, but I love that it's reversible and again can be a top as Sadie gets taller.

Different Hair Flower/Bow Tutorials
I'm not huge on putting stuff on Sadie's head, mainly because I hate having crap on my head, but I think ONE of the 4 on this one would be ok.

Baby Glam Necklace T
How freaking adorable is this? And get this, it's fabric paint, no buttons or beads to get yanked off and choked on!

Easy No-Sew Tutu
Go look at this tutorial, for reals, so easy! Even an un-crafty person could pull this off!

Hmm, have you been counting? That was totally 6, oh well, I just couldn't narrow it down!
Got any other tutorials I should consider adding to my list?

Week in an Instant

Our new bathtub is this awesome blowup duck, we like to read farm book while bathing.

The Blizzard of the Month at Dairy Queen is Nutter Butter, it amazing.

Waiting in the room for the doctor to show up for Sadie's 6th month appointment.

Robert and I went and ate burgers in San Marcos Saturday night and I saw this AWESOME fire hydrant on our way into the restaurant, it needed to have it's picture taken.

Sadie showing off her new trick, she knows how to "clap-clap", look at those hands move! At the beginning of last week she learned how to shake her head no and was a head shaking fool until the clapping took over!

5 Pins for Friday

Orange Sauce for Orange Chicken
I love Panda Express' Orange Chicken so I've always wanted to try making it at home but with non-breaded/fried chicken. This orange sauce sounds like a pretty good match!

Family Tree Finger Print Christmas Card
I'm not really thinking about Christmas cards yet, but how cute would this be to do a few years down the road when we are done have kiddos. We could even include a paw print from the dogs!

Painted door mat
I don't love the chevrons, but I do like the tutorial for painting the rug. We have a rug just like that by our back door that is supposed to help keep the dogs from tracking so much dirt in.

Baby in a Pumpkin
How freaking adorable is this? I HAVE to do this with Sadie come Fall.

Dark Chocolate Caramel Nutella Pretzel Twix Bars
Now, I am not a huge Nutella fan, so I would probably replace that with some creamy peanut butter, yummm! Nothing better than that pretzel,  peanut butter, chocolate combo!

Haffy Birthday, Sadie!

Today is Sadie's half birthday... eeekkk! Can someone please tell her to stop growing up so fast on me?!?! I'm taking her to the doctor tomorrow, so I'll do an official 6 months post some time next week.

(It cracks me up how puffy her eyes are in the mornings! You'd think all she did was cry all night. She doesn't. I suppose she is just not ready to get up at 6:30am when I have to go in and WAKE HER UP after she has been sleeping since 7 the night before. Tough life, only getting 11.5 hours of sleep...)

Vacation Help

Y'all... I need help. I am trying to plan a trip for Robert and I in October for our anniversary. We're planning on being gone for 4-5 days.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO GO!

I have a very small list of places we've tossed around, but I am having a devil of a time making a decision. At first we wanted it to be somewhere within driving distance (10 hours max), but I think we are open to flying. We are not planning on bringing Sadie with us, so once we get everything figured out, and before we book anything, we'll talk to family about watching her.

Here is our list:
  • New Orleans - This has been our top contender, bu neither one of us is 100% sold yet. Plus, I can't decide if I want to stay in a nice hotel close to the action or find a b&b farther away, too many options!
  • Las Vegas - Pretty sure this one is out because we want to plan a trip with friends for next year.
  • New England somewhere - We don't really have fall in our part of Texas, so I would LOVE to see actual leaf color changing.
  • Washington DC - We have family that lives right out side of DC so we could probably stay with them, but then I think I would feel bad not bringing Sadie!
  • Florida Keys - Again, pretty sure this one is out because of cost. Robert would really want to spend the whole time fishing which is not cheap.
Annnnd that's all I have. So, to the ever so small number of people that read this (I love you!), got any suggestions? Have any thoughts about the above mentioned places? Or any other ideas that might be within driving distance?

I'll keep everyone posted with what we decide to do!

Go buy one of these

Sorry I've been a bit absent the past week. It's been crazy. I'm exhausted and all that's got me going is that we have NO PLANS for this weekend.

I have been trying to put together a new "baby products that I'm loving post", but it's just not happening. However, there is one item I love so much that I decided to dedicate a whole post to it!
No, this is not a "fun" mommy & daddy toy, as one of my friends thought.

That's a Nosefrida, and it's amazing. It will change your life and your baby's, GO BUY ONE. You use it like this:
Cue the gagging!
First things first, there is a filter in between the end that goes in your mouth and the end that goes in baby's nose so there should be no snot in mouth action. In fact, I don't think I have ever had snot get anywhere near the filter.

This thing completely grosses Robert out, he can't be in the room if I am using it and if he hears me using it he gags.

Sadie is a pretty snotty baby, she is almost always super congested sounding and is already on allergy meds and uses a nebulizer. A lot of times we have to suck the snot out of her nose before feeding her so she can breath while eating, that's snotty. The bulb sucker just wasn't cutting it out for us. But the Nosefrida, man, that is the way to go. I get so much more snot out with this thing than a bulb sucker and even better I get that way down deep snot since the amount of suction is determined by how much I suck, not how much air has been compressed out of a bulb. With that in mind, I will admit there are a few times I have felt reeeally lightheaded after using it. Not to mention I always feel like I am going to suck Sadie's brains out. No brains have been sucked out, yet.
I use the above saline spray first, just to loosen everything up, and then suck with the Nosefrida.

Really, if you had a baby, go buy one of these, it will change your life.

(I can't believe I just did a whole post about snot, what has my life come to?)
